One Child One Voice
In 2003 “One Child One Voice” was nominated for an Emmy Award and won 37 awards. Via 8 global broadcasts this program reached over 3,000 TV stations around the world. The program generated thousands of leaf shaped post cards to vote for the earth, which were sent by viewers to their local politicians and to the Tree Of Life at the United Nation’s Johannesburg Summit for Sustainable Development. This show has been seen by millions of people in 150 countries. The show is a pioneering use of television, inspiring people to speak out and take visible action on behalf of the Earth. Today this program continues to air around the world influencing politicians and generating leaf shaped post cards for the permanent Tree of Life.
Quote from Al Gore Letter on the Rio Earth Summit
"During the two years of preparatory negotiations and during the Earth Summit itself, the Bush Administration blocked consensus on many of the issues being debated... I believe that efforts such as the Earth Summit teleconferences did have some impact on the Administration. Without such efforts, the obstruction and stubborn unwillingness to compromise by the Bush Administration would likely have been even worse."
Cairo Population Conference
In 1994, Green Sphere produced a teleconference on the population issues and conducted a national public debate on PBS. It included a survey in which the audience could participate. The results showed how the audience viewed family planning and reproductive health care. We believe this input had a direct impact on public policy, and in 1994 Congress approved its largest allocation to date ($595 million) for family planning and reproductive health care.
Another pro-active use of the media:
In Portland, Maine, a citizen presented our video on food irradiation in the spring of 1993 to the Maine Agricultural Committee… The bill, which would have allowed the irradiation of food was subsequently defeated unanimously by that committee, due in part to our video.
